Ballard Tree Service is a trusted, family-owned tree care company that has proudly served the Seattle area since 1990. Known for our expertise, integrity, and strong customer relationships, we are expanding our consulting team and looking for a qualified Certified Arborist to join us. This is a great opportunity for an experienced arborist who enjoys working with clients, diagnosing tree health, and producing high-quality arborist reports and estimates.

Job Summary:

The Certified Arborist – Consulting & Sales role focuses on delivering expert tree care assessments, providing professional consulting services, and generating clear, detailed arborist reports and estimates. This client-facing position is ideal for someone with strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and a passion for promoting proper tree care in both residential and commercial settings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct on-site tree and landscape assessments for residential, commercial, and municipal clients

  • Diagnose tree health issues including pest infestations, diseases, and structural concerns

  • Prepare detailed ISA-compliant arborist reports, health evaluations, and risk assessments

  • Provide tree protection consultation for development, permitting, and construction projects

  • Create clear, accurate job estimates and work proposals

  • Communicate directly with clients to explain findings, recommendations, and scope of work

  • Collaborate with the production team to ensure smooth project handoffs and alignment with the work order

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of local tree ordinances and permitting processes

  • Represent Ballard Tree Service professionally in consultations, site walks, and community outreach

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of all site visits and correspondence

  • Help identify opportunities to grow consulting services and support business development

  • Stay current on industry standards and ISA best practices

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Required: ISA Certified Arborist® (in good standing)

  • 2+ years of experience in arborist consulting, report writing, or tree care sales

  • Working knowledge of Pacific Northwest tree species, pests, and diseases

  • Familiarity with Seattle and surrounding municipalities’ tree protection codes

Requirements and Skills:

  • Valid WA Driver’s License

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to prepare professional arborist reports and communicate technical concepts clearly

  • Competency using tools like GPS, laser rangefinders, diameter tapes, and clinometers

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office or equivalent reporting software

  • Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently

  • Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy

  • Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain

  • Ability to pass a background check

Preferred but Not Required:

  • TRAQ (Tree Risk Assessment Qualification)

  • ISA Municipal Specialist or Utility Specialist

  • Experience with permitting and urban forestry regulations in Seattle or neighboring cities

  • Sales experience in arboriculture or horticulture services

Occupational Health & Safety:

All team members are expected to comply with Ballard Tree Service’s safety policies, participate in risk assessments, and wear appropriate PPE when on job sites.
